The person gesturing no emoji shows a person – usually a woman – with their head and upper torso visible, holding their arms crossed in an X-shape to indicate “no” or “no deal”. Much of their face is concealed due to the gesture, however part of the mouth is usually visible and is often arranged in a O-shaped surprised look. The emoji can be used in a number of different circumstances to convey non-consent or refusal, and can be used both seriously and in a more joking manner. It can mean “go away!” or “stop bothering me!”, as well as a more general “there’s no way I’m doing that/going there”.
